TTFF News - Warner : Win over Haiti significant in many ways

Warner : Win over Haiti significant in many ways

Issued on May 29, 2007

FIFA Vice President Jack Warner has offered congratulations to the current members of the Trinidad and Tobago Senior team following their 1-0 victory over Haiti in the opening day of the Digicel Shield.

T&T, minus several of its regular members who wore the national shirt at Germany 2006, held its own to come away with the win on Monday and set up a final with Mexico’s Pan American team on Wednesday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

In a letter to head coach Wim Rijsbergen and manager Sam Phillip on Tuesday from Switzerland, Warner stated “This is one of those occasions where, in my various football capacities,  I take the greatest pleasure in congratulating the senior national team on their win vs Haiti yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on the occasion of the mini tournament in celebration of Digicel’s first anniversary as a telecommunications service provider in Trinidad and Tobago .  The victory is significant for several reasons, none of which will be enunciated at this time.  Suffice it to say, from all reports, the guys, under the fine leadership of young Densill Theobold did an excellent job in their victory over the other Caribbean powerhouse Haiti .

“Please extend my congratulations to all as we look forward to victory over Mexico in their next match and then on to participation in the Gold Cup where I have no doubt they will continue to shine,” added the TTFF Special Advisor.

“All my colleagues at the FIFA join with me in extending congratulations to you, your staff and the guys and do urge all of you to keep the faith for the future of football in Trinidad & Tobago continues to be bright indeed in spite of the few dark spots which may emerge from time to time.”

Warner had just witnessed the inauguration of the Home of FIFA headquarters with festivities in the presence of 1,300 association delegates and many invited guests from the worlds of sport, culture, politics and business.
