14.9.06 - St. Vincent and the Grenadines slipped one place to number eight in the
latest Rankings in the CFU but climbed two places in FIFA.
The Vincentians who recently re-entered the CFU top 10 teams made the slip owing to some say are inactivity and a 0-1 loss to Antigua recently.
That result saw the Antiguans replacing SVG at number seven in the Rankings, which were released this week.
Team SVG played to a 1-1 draw with Barbados last Sunday at the National Stadium. They are expected to play other matches against Guyana and return matches against Barbados and Antigua over the next week.
The home matches on home soil are looking bleak with the difficulty of the
SVG Football Federation to get the use of the only current venue-the Victoria Park- to carry out its programme.
The local governing body has expressed frustration over what it says are
deliberate attempts to impede its attempts to move forward. This includes preparations for the 2006 Digicel Caribbean Cup and the running off of the National Inter-league.
Reports say based on the new format for Rankings recently introduced by FIFA more inactivity or poor results will see SVG moving closer to the 150's than the 100 they are aiming for in the next few months.
In the overall FIFA Rankings SVG have actually moved to 129 from 131 in the August Rankings.
