For my Dwight Yorke Fans

Saw this today..and thought that it might be of interest to Dwight fans

===========================================================

Trinidad and Tobago's football captain Dwight Yorke on Thursday completed his transfer from Sydney FC to join English Premiership Club - Sunderland -
Roy Keane, unveiled as the Wearside club's new manager on Tuesday, had earlier signed Dwight Yorke, Graham Kavanagh, Ross Wallace and Stanislav Varga. Kavanagh is another to have played for the Republic.
Yorke's was the first deal finalised by the Coca-Cola Championship strugglers, who won their first match of the season on Monday, after five defeats.
The 34-year-old striker - who played with Keane in United's treble-winning side of 1999 - joined from Australian A-League side Sydney FC.
Terry Butcher, Yorke's coach at Sydney and a former Sunderland manager himself, said: "It's sad to see Dwight leave.
"He is a great player and a tremendous personality to have in the team and he has worked very hard since I came to Sydney to be in shape to play."
Keane then completed a move for 32-year-old Wigan midfielder Graham Kavanagh - a former Republic of Ireland international midfield team-mate.
The former Middlesbrough, Stoke and Cardiff player signed a three-year deal for a fee of £500,000, having left the Ireland squad preparing for Saturday's European Championship qualifier with Germany in Stuttgart.
Later in the evening news of the double deal for Celtic pair Ross Wallace and Stanislav Varga was revealed.
In a combined deal potentially worth more than £1million, Scotland Under-21 midfielder and Slovakian international defender Varga moved to the Stadium of Light.
Keane spent the second half of last season with Celtic.
Wallace, a 21-year-old midfielder who can also play in defence, will strengthen a left side of the Sunderland side which has been depleted by the departures of George McCartney and Julio Arca to Barclays Premiership West Ham and Middlesbrough respectively.
Varga, a 33-year-old central defender, rejoins Sunderland three-and-a-half years after he left Wearside for Parkhead.

Another citizen of Trinidad and Tobagojoins WICB

Another citizen of Trinidad and Tobago,Anthony (Tony) Deyal has been appointed Corporate Services Manager (CSM) of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) with effect from September 1, 2006.

It has been advertised that the new post of CSM will include the responsibility for the functions of Corporate Secretary, Corporate Communications, Human Resources Management and Industrial Relations. Sounds like a lot!

Apparently Deyal has considerable management experience at national, regional and international levels.

Many of you may not know that he was most recently Public Education and Outreach Specialist (PEOS) of the Belize-based World Bank/ CARICOM Mainstreaming Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Project which covers the 12 English-speaking Caribbean countries.

If we trace his career- From 1992 - 1998, he was the Media/Communications Advisor of the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organisation in the Caribbean, and subsequently Corporate Communications Manager at the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago (PETROTRIN).

WICB reports that "he is also a columnist for several newspapers in the region and a passionate West Indies cricket fan. "(who isn't?)

Mr. Deyal reportedly commented, "I really believe this is a crucial period for West Indies cricket and that I can add value to the efforts of the WICB and all the other stakeholders to take our game back to the top of the world where it rightly belongs." He quipped, "Besides, I always wanted a job that allows me to watch cricket without feeling guilty about it." (who wouldn't?)

Deyal joins , one of our favorites - Barry Thomas ( Financial Controller) and as well as Ken Gordon ( President ) as other citizens of Trinidad and Tobago involved in West Indies cricket.

RUMOR has it..... that in September

......one of the biggest construction projects ever to be undertaken by a single firm will start in the Caribbean.

GL Events, a firm based in Lyon, France, will begin its work on the temporary seating for the 12 venues in nine territories for the 2007 International Cricket Council's World Cup (CWC). (FEARLESS asks why France?)

The project will start with the building of the new 16 000-seat grandstand on the eastern side of Kensington Oval and then move to the other venues. Overall GL Events will be installing over 75 000 seats and will be putting in other temporary facilities. ( FEARLESS asks how will we fill these after?)

Caribbean companies which applied last December to supply equipment and services under the central procurement process will now deal directly with GL Events and work to be selected as secondary overlay suppliers.
The firm will now accept tenders from those companies which have been pre-qualified. The successful companies will be contracted as secondary suppliers to GL Events. (FEARLESS just says Hmnn......)

"It's fantastic. It's very complex with nine different countries and already it's a massive achievement to be able to get the event running at this pace," said Xavier Becker. (FEARLESS asks Did we not learn about dealing with Beckers?)

"We are delighted to be working in the West Indies and bringing our expertise to the region for such an important event as the Cricket World Cup. (FEARLESS says I bet they are!)

"This is big for the West Indies and it's also big for us. We are very impressed by the hard work of the local organising committees and the facility officers we have seen so far," he said. (FEARLESS wonders where they went)

Last week, the developers of the nine local organising committees have been meeting with officials from GL Events to plan the way to execute the projects. (FEARLESS cannot believe that they are still planning when will execution start?)

"Part of our work will include giving an education to the people we work with. We want to allow the people of the West Indies to not only work, but to learn so they will have a chance to carry on other projects in the future." (FEARLESS finds that so SWEET.....not)

The CWC will run from March 5 to 28. Pre-tournament matches run from March 5 to 9 and will be played at the 3Ws Oval, the Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad; the Greenfield Stadium, Trelawney in Jamaica; and Arnos Vale, St Vincent.
The opening round will be played from March 13 to March 25. Group A will be played at the New Warner Park, St Kitts; Group B at Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad; Group C at Beausejour, St Lucia; and Group D at Sabina Park, Jamaica.
The Super 8 matches have been divided into two segments. From March 27 to April 9, matches will be at the Viv Richards Stadium, Antigua, and the Providence Stadium, Guyana. The other segment will be at Kensington Oval and Queen's Park, Grenada Oval from April 10 to 21.

The semis will be at Sabina Park on April 24 and Beausejour on April 25."

(FEARLESS says time will tell)

Subject The way forward
Doug,
Just to firm up what we discussed earlier this evening. I appreciate the ICC may be put in a untenable position with regards to future appointments and having taken considerable time and advice, I make this one-off, non-negotiable offer.
I am prepared to retire/stand down/relinquish my position on the elite panel to take effect from 31st August 2006 on the following terms:
1 A one-off payment to compensate the loss of future earnings and retain a payment over the next four years which I believe would have been the best years I have to offer ICC and world umpiring. This payment is be the sum of [US dollars] 500,000 - details of which must be kept confidential by both parties. This sum to be paid directly into my account by 31st August 2006.
2 ICC may announce the retirement in any way they wish, but I would prefer a simple 'lifestyle choice' as this was the very reason I moved from Australia to settle in the UK three years ago.
3 No public comment to be made by me as to possible reasons for the decision.
4 This offer in no way precludes me taking legal action and/or instigating libel suits against various sections of the electronic and print media for comments made either previously or in the future.
5 This in no way precludes me taking civil action (and exercising my rights as a resident of the UK in any court of law and by any other avenue open to me) against any organisation or persons currently part of ICC and in particular, members of the Pakistan cricket team and the Pakistan Cricket Board.
I reiterate this is a once only offer and if I fail to obtain your agreement I shall continue to be available under the terms of my current contract till March 31 2008 to fulfil umpiring appointments as and when ICC sees fit in any country at any time in any series or matches involving any affiliated teams.
I would also insist that my ongoing contracted employment continue in its current form until such time as an ICC performance assessment deems me to be no longer able to perform the duties to the high class expected of an international umpire.
Would you please let me know at your earliest convenience of your acceptance or otherwise of this offer.
Sincerely,
Darrell Hair

Darrell, Your offer may have merit and is acknowledged and under discussions with ICC management. Your timeframes seemed impractical at first glance even if agreement were achieved on the suggestion. Will discuss this further tomorrow.

Doug, Phones have been ringing off the hook (or out of the mobile charger anyway!) since early this morning - ICC are not the only ones marshalling legal counsel. It appears from overnight developments that the issue of racism has arisen and from advice I have just received, the sum indicated in my release offer is being revised. Therefore the offer is withdrawn until I have had the chance to take further advice. Hope to get back to you within the next 24 hours.
Cheers, Darrell.

Dear Darrell, I have been given copies of letters that you have forwarded to Doug Cowie today concerning the current issue. The matters raised by you concerning your future employment are entirely inappropriate. There is a clear process that is to be followed and it is in place. I will call you tomorrow to advise as to progress.
Yours sincerely, Malcolm

Thanks Malcolm, I have revoked the email. As you say it is inappropriate and we will see how things unfold over the next few days. It would appear that life will go on regardless. I have just sent Doug another message with you and David copied in about events under my control and some others that are not!
Cheers, Darrell.

THE GREAT RACE HOAX in Tobago

Who won the GREAT RACE ON SATURDAY?

Who knows?

Who cares?

And by the WAY, where does GREAT come from in this boat race.

The Oxford Dictionary defines “GREAT” as
- considerable in extent or time , important , pre –eminent; of great ability –

So where was this “greatness “perpetuated before and made into boating reality.

There are many who have said, the best boats in the country, do not even participate in this event, in fact these boats operate at night, under a cloud of suspicion and are too fast for anything the authorities have.

But that, like the gradual decline in popularity of this race, may only be a perception.

Anyway, if this race is to regain its status, then a lot of better marketing has to be done.

The Powerboat Association must accept a lot of the blame, they appear rudderless and without any proper planning and innovation.

In these technological times, they need to be internet savvy and appealing to the youths.

Sponsors will soon evaporate, because the interest in this event is less that 5% in the entire country, and maybe I am being generous.

But having digressed, back to the leading question, WHO WON?

At this time, nobody knows, because after the fiasco of 2005, the BOATING fraternity apparently decided there would be winners in respective classes, but no overall winners, because of the staggered starts.

What a load of rubbish , and a clear exercise in COWARDICE by the Association , in any competition, if it is indeed that and that not merely a parade of boats by friends , there must be winners and there must be losers.

It is rather perplexing, that after years of one overall winner, there is now a problem with declaring one.

Is it that because one boat was winning so many years in a row, that others decided to stop this dominance? Why not try to ensure more competitive boats are involved?
Maybe, the lost of public interest and trust in boat racing and this event, is because the date has changed from its originality, or that in its current format and with poor marketing, it is considered an event for a bunch of rich people?

Let us hope this can be corrected sooner, rather than later, there is now new management at the Powerboats Association, and hopefully, new ideas will brought to the forefront of the sport.
