FC DALLAS news release_FC DALLAS GOES TO TRINIDAD FOR SHAKA HISLOP TRIBUTE CUP

FC DALLAS GOES TO TRINIDAD FOR SHAKA HISLOP TRIBUTE CUP

FRISCO, Texas (Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007) – FC Dallas and Brazilian-partner Clube Atletico Paranaense will join two All-Star teams from the Trinidad and Tobago Pro League in honoring retired FCD goalkeeper and Trinidad and Tobago National team legend Shaka Hislop in the Shaka Hislop Tribute Cup. The four-team tournament will be played as doubleheaders on Friday, November 30 and Sunday, December 2, 2007 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

Two all-star teams will be formed out of the players currently playing in the TT Pro League: the TT Pro League Local All-Stars, chosen from the best local players in the league; and the TT Pro League Foreign All-Stars, chosen from the best foreign players playing in the league. Shaka is scheduled to play part of a game with the TT Pro League local All-Stars and part of a game with FC Dallas.

On Nov. 30, FC Dallas will play the TT Pro League Foreign All-Stars while Atletico Paranaense meets the TT Pro league Local All-Stars. On Dec. 2, Atletico Paranaense will face the TT Pro League Foreign All-Stars while FC Dallas plays the TT Pro League Local All-Stars.

“FC Dallas is proud to take part in honoring Shaka by participating in the Shaka Hislop Tribute Cup,” said FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock. “Shaka brought experience, leadership, and professionalism to FC Dallas, and it will be special to see him represent our team one final time in his home country.”

In September 2007, Hislop retired from professional soccer, ending a career that spanned 15 years playing professionally in England and the United States. After graduating from Howard University in Washington D.C. in May 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Shaka was identified by Reading FC scouts during a trip to England and offered a contract. Over the next 14 years, he went on to also play for Newcastle, Portsmouth, and West Ham, finishing his English Premier League career by playing in the FA Cup final in May 2006, in which the Hammers fell to Liverpool 3-1 on penalty kicks after tying 3-3 in regulation.

A month later, Shaka was in goal for Trinidad and Tobago's National team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, shutting out Sweden in a 0-0 draw and then keeping England off the scoreboard for 83 minutes before conceding a pair of late goals in a 2-0 loss.

Shaka joined FC Dallas shortly after the 2006 World Cup, and posted a record of 4-5-1 in 10 first team appearances before retiring due to back problems earlier this month.

Off the field, in April 2005, Hislop was recognized as the recipient of the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Special Merit Award for his continued involvement with the "Show Racism The Red Card" campaign, which he helped start in 1996 as a way to keep racism away from soccer.

ABOUT CLUBE ATLETICO PARANAENSE: Founded in 1924, Clube Atletico Paranaense is one of 20 teams that play in Brazil’s top professional soccer league, the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A. Also known as the Furacão (Hurricane), Atletico Paranaense is located in the southern Brazilian city of Curitiba, the capital city of the state of Parana.

Atletico won its first Campeonato Brasiliero championship in 2001 and has played in three Copa Libertadores, South America’s most prestigious club tournament. The club qualified for the 2000, 2002, and 2005 tournaments, posting its best result in 2005 when they defeated Mexican club Chivas de Guadalajara in the semifinals before losing the home-and-away Copa Libertadores Final to Brazil’s São Paulo FC. Locally, the club has also won 21 Paraná state championships.

In September 2006, FC Dallas and Atletico Paranaense established an exclusive partnership, which included a home and home series, the opportunity to exchange players, and joint cooperative efforts to expand each team’s business. Earlier this year, CAP defeated FCD 4-1 on aggregate in the home and home series. Forward Ricardinho, who scored the loan goal for CAP in the 1-0 win at Pizza Hut Park, became the first player loaned from one team to the other when he signed with FC Dallas in July.

TTFF News - Senior Team resumes training.... Olympic team faces Cuba on Oct 9

Issued by Shaun Fuentes, TTFF Media Officer, September 25, 2007

Trinidad and Tobago Senior team head coach Wim Rijsbergen was back on the training pitch at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Tuesday morning as he commenced efforts to get a team ready for next month’s international friendly away to El Salvador.

Rijsbergen, after inviting 19 players for training, maintained that the list was not the actual squad for the international game but simply a pool from which players will be considered.

He had one overseas-based players in the mix, US-based Charleston Battery striker Andre Toussaint while there were recalls for Stephan David, Conrad Smith, Dwayne Jack, Trent Noel, Kerry Baptiste, Keyeno Thomas,Clyde Leon and goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams,

“It’s good to get the preparations going again with the game on for next month. But what we have here is not definitely the squad but an invitation to players who we wish to have a look at and from this bunch we will consider for our selection for the game against El Salvador,” Rijsbergen told TTFF Media. Prior to the announcement regarding the players involved in the arbitration matter on Friday, invitations for training had already gone out to the home-based players.

Toussaint is back home with Charleston Battery’s failure to make the American A-League playoffs and he expects to finish the rest of the year with W Connection.

“It was a decent start to my time in the A-League. Disappointed yes that we didn’t progress in the playoffs so that means we have to wait until next year. I think we had some areas which needed working on and that included making better use of our scoring chances. I’m looking to finish of the year with ‘W’ and also getting my spot back on the national team. We just have to work and make sure everything is in place so the team can perform as best as possible,” said Toussaint who played the full 90 in Charleston’s 0-0 draw with Puerto Rico Islanders in their season finale.

Meantime, with Senior team assistant coach Anton Corneal back after being at the helm of the National Under 17 team, Olympic team coach Michael McComie was also in charge of the National Under 23 team as they engaged in a scrimmage with the Seniors in the morning session.

The Olympic team is preparing for a CFU Final round with Cuba and Grenada next month. Interestingly, McComie had CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh striker Lester Peltier in his session. Peltier, after being recalled, turned up at last week’s session stating being injured and was excused from the session. It was reported to McComie that the player would possibly need surgery. However Peltier showed up again and was involved in the session on Tuesday. Elton John, not initially called, also showed up a second time and was subsequently allowed to train by McComie. The T&T Pro League also couldn’t relay whether Peltier was in fact in the Jabloteh team for its Reserve Game against Defence Force on Monday.

“Right now we are about trying to get the team as best as ready for the next set of games so we therefore don’t have much time to look into any other stuff. They players showed up good today and as I said before everyone seems to be working with the right attitude which is the important thing at this time,” McComie added.

The T&T Olympic team will face Cuba on October 9 at the Marvin Lee Stadium and then come up against Grenada on October 13 at the same venue. Grenada and Cuba will also clash between the mentioned dates. The top team from the group will advance to the CONCACAF Final round next year leading to the Beijing Olympics.

The rest of the Senior team called for training on Tuesday included: Kern Cupid, Thomas Nickelson. Keston Williams, Devon Jorsling, Terrence McAllister, Jason Springer, Jason Marcano, Cleon John, Tristan Charles and Glenton Wolfe.

CFU News - Warner: In depth study for CONCACAF youth football

Warner: In depth study for CONCACAF youth football
Issued by Shaun Fuentes, TTFF/CFU Media Officer, September 10, 2007

CONCACAF President Jack Warner says that he will be setting up a meeting
of the Confederation's Youth and Technical Committee to assess the
performance of the United States, Costa Rica, Honduras, Haiti and
Trinidad and Tobago at the just concluded FIFA Under 17 World
Championship in South Korea.

Warner, chairman of the tournament's organizing committee said he was
far from impressed by the showing of the Concacaf representatives and
will await an in depth study into the reasons for the below par
showings. Only the US and Costa Rica progressed beyond the group phase
and were knocked out Germany and Argentina respectively.

"I was not quite impressed with the CONCACAF teams and regrettably our
standard seems to be on the decline though in Peru we were rescued by an
exceptionally good Mexican team. Even the US who have consistently been
taking part in this competition since its inception was not as good this
year as in previous years and I will have to call a meeting of our
Confederation's Youth Committee and Technical Committee to do an
in-depth study into the reasons for this present state of affairs,"
Warner said after witnessing the final won by Nigeria on Sunday in
Seoul. Members on the CONCACAF technical committee include Dick Howard,
Manuel LaPuente, Trinidadian Alvin Corneal, Robert Jenkins and Rodrigo
Kenton.

The FIFA Vice President did agree though that in some instances the
level of play was of a high standard as the Under 17s looked a class
above their age category.

"You are absolutely correct and this is true of so many teams besides
the regular ones as Brazil and Argentina or even the African teams. And
, in his regard, I refer specifically to such teams as England,
Tajikistan and Peru together with all the other teams in the Semi
Finals.

"It is my belief that Europe has now realized that they have to develop
their football from the bottom up and not only rely on International
transfers to satisfy their need for players at club level.More and more
we shall be seeing more of the traditional European powerhouses taking
part in these age group competitions."

Warner, while admitting that the crowd attendance was not up to par,
didn't agree that it had to do partially with the early exit of the
hosts South Korea.

"T&T was eliminated in the first round in 2001 and that did not prevent
thousands of fans from being both inside and outside the stadia for each
match thereafter. Just recently in the FIFA World U 20 Championship in
Canada just two months ago, Canada was eliminated in the first round
without even scoring a goal and yet there were huge crowds at all the
matches with sell out crowds in many of them. And Canada is a much
bigger country, in size, than Korea. The plain and simple fact is that
the attendance was low principally because of poor promotion and
marketing and this coupled with the adverse weather conditions accounted
for the parlous attendance," Warner added.

He remains optimistic that the Under 20 Championship in Egypt in two
years time and the next Under 17 Finals in Nigeria will be even more
impressive.

"In Egypt, I expect everything to be better and I expect the same in
Nigeria in two years time where the defending champions' country,
football is a religion," Warner concluded.

TTFF News - U17 player Maund still opts for T&T over USA

Photo shows Maund in action vs Colombia

Maund still opts for T&T over the USA

Issued by Shaun Fuentes, TTFF Media Officer, September 6, 2007

United States-born National Under 17 player Aaron Maund says he would
choose Trinidad and Tobago over the country of birth if he had to make
that selection any time in the future.

And why? Not only because he's now represented T&T at a FIFA Under 17
World Championship but because he prefers the feeling he experiences
when wearing the red, white and black. In other words, he prefers the
vibes of the "Soca Warriors".

Maund, a 16-year old was in the final pool in the US team before being
cut prior to the team's final qualifying campaign in April. His father
being Trinidadian allowed him to play for T&T while another player-
Sheannon Williams, who was once attached to Joe Public FC went on to
play for the US as a defender at the World Championship. Both Maund and
Williams grew up playing in Dorchester. Both players were also part of
the Greater Boston Bolts club which won a US National Under 16 title a
couple years back.

"The results of the U17 World Cup could go far in determining the
futures of its participants. Most of the starting players in this event
are either with professional clubs or destined for them soon. The
emergence of Maund and Williams also symbolizes the progress of local
players, dozens of whom have forged professional careers from Major
League Soccer to Eastern Europe," the Boston Globe newspaper stated.

Maund meantime took everything he could with him from the Korea
experience. He started all three matches against Ghana, Colombia and
Germany and managed two of T&T's better chances on goal against the
Germans.

"It's been a really good experience. Coming from the US meant I didn't
know a lot of the guys here at first. But the team welcomed me into the
family and that helped the transition. My level of play has grown over
the experience and that's been the benefit of it," Maund told TTFF
Media.

He added that he didn't see any major differences between the T&T and US
camps.

"When I first came here I felt the only difference was the accent. It's
a lot of the same. the same stuff in training, the guys are very
similar. Some of the off the field things may be different but it's
really isn't that big of a difference. I think everyone wants to succeed
and work hard at trying to achieve that. We need to do more though."

So which country would he choose tomorrow if the option to represent
either country came up again.

"It's easy! I would be with the Trinidad and Tobago team because I enjoy
playing with this team. the coaching staff and all. it's more of a
family unit as opposed to the US where it's like each player for himself
which is the feeling I got. The (T&T team) staff cares about you and the
players as well and that's the kind of unit I want to be in. I want to
go on trials possibly outside but next year is the Under 20s and I'll be
back for that definitely. I'm working towards playing for the Trinidad
and Tobago Senior team in the future," Maund concluded.

TTFF News - T&T defeats Netherlands Antilles in second Olympic qualifying game

T&T get second win in Olympic qualifiers

Issued by Shaun Fuentes, TTFF Media Officer, September 2, 2007

Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic team secured its second consecutive win in Group A Caribbean Football Union Olympic qualifying action with a hardfought 2-0 victory over the Netherlands Antilles at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Following their convincing 4-0 win over Guyana on Friday, T&T, despite an early 11th minute goal from Carlyle Mitchell, had to stretch further for the win this time around against a stubborn Antilles outfit.

Mitchell converted from close range from an incoming corner and T&T managed a series of other attempts on goal but poor finishing saw the score remain 1-0 at the break.

The Antilles came back out sensing something on the cards but T&T held firm in defense resisting anything that came from the opponents. Then substitute Hayden Tinto, who replaced Christopher Sam in the 60th minute, came up with an assist on T&T’s second goal. He set up midfielder Simeon Augustus for the second goal in the 61st.

Defender Corneal Thomas was replaced by Devon Drayton in the 36th minute following an ankle injury which forced him to be taken to hospital for an x-ray.

T&T coach Michael McComie added that T&T received its first real test of the campaign.

“It was a much tougher game for us this time. Even though we got the early goal, the Netherlands kept to their task and they fought on. We had several chances to increase the lead in the first half. In saying that, the boys did the job and came away with the three points which is the most important thing at this stage. We have one more game against the host nation and our aim is to come away with maximum points again,” McComie told TTFF Media after the win.

The winner of Group A will join five other Caribbean quadrangular victors in the second round that consists of two three-team groups scheduled to play off in October 2007. The top finishers in each triangular group will progress to the 2008 CONCACAF U-23 Final Round Tournament.

T&T line up: Kevin Mussio, Corneal Thomas (Devon Drayton, 36th,), Akil Edwards, Keon Daniel, Radanfah Abu Bakr, Larry Bacchus, Simeon Augustus, Marcelle Francois, Carlyle Mitchell (Kendall Jagdeosingh, 65th) Christopher Sam (Hayden Tinto, 60th).

13 INJURED AT RACE MEET IN BARBADOS

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) - A group of spectators suffered injuries in a freak accident yesterday morning at Bushy Park where they had gathered to watch an international motor racing meet.

A truck, which was parked, rolled downhill and struck four other vehicles, leaving 13 spectators injured.
The highly-anticipated meet, features several competitors from across the Caribbean at the eastern Barbados home of motor racing in the country.

Police public relations officer, Inspector Barry Hunte, reported that nine adults and four children were injured in the mishap.

"While the truck was going downhill several spectators who were gathered began to scamper for their safety and during this 13 of them reported injuries, including broken hands and feet.

"Some experienced pain in the back and neck and others suffered bruises to their feet and hands," he said.
Inspector Hunte said the injured were evaluated by an on-site medical team before being transported to the island's sole public hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) race meet, which attracted competitors from Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Cayman Islands and as far as the United States, continued soon after the injured left for treatment.

Inspector Hunte said police
would continue investigations into the accident.

TTFF News - T&T Olympic team secures berth in final CFU round

Olympic team secures berth in CFU final round

Issued by Shaun Fuentes, TTFF Media Officer, September 5, 2007

They needed a draw to secure the top spot and a berth into the next
phase and that was the result the Trinidad and Tobago National Under 23
team achieved in Tuesday's final Group A CFU Olympic qualifying match in
Paramaribo. The game between the hosts Suriname and T&T was tightly
contested, finishing 0-0 leaving T&T on seven points ahead of Guyana
(four points) who drew 2-2 with Netherlands Antilles in the second game
of the double header.

The T&T team will however have to play its next match in the CFU final
round without the services of defender Radanfah Abu Bakr who was sent
off in the 84th minute on a second bookable offense after receiving a
first caution in the 30th minute from Barbados referee Mark Forde. T&T
had earlier kicked off thegame without two regular starters who were
injured - striker Carlyle Mitchell and defender Corneal Thomas.

T&T substitute goalie Kareem Gray also had to come up big with a penalty
stop in the second half. He replaced Kevin Mussio who came off with a
head knock in the 53rd minute.

T&T coach Michael McComie made three second half changes with Gray
replacing Mussio, Kendall Jagdeosingh being replaced by Hayden Tinto in
the 62nd and US-based forward Stephan St Louis coming on for Simeon
Augustus in the 74th .

"The boys started off this game well. We never entertained the idea of a
draw but it so happened we got the one point which we needed to go
through. Suriname played their best game against us but in saying that
our guys applied themselves well in the sort of manner which we wanted,"
McComie told TTFF Media.

"We started off this tournament in a manner which allowed us not to
relax for the follow up games but it meant that we were never left
panicking. The players deserve all the credit because to play three
games and not concede a goal is an accomplishment at any level
especially away from home.

"They knew it would not be the ideal scenario coming here but they
worked their legs off and did the job despite what people had to say
about the team and its selection going into the tournament. The more
impressive thing is that all these players came through the entire
preparation and you sense that bit of relief after the final whistle
because the initial goal was to progress to the next phase. Now they
will return to their clubs and we will concentrate on our next opponents
for the upcoming round. We will look at the teams in the Cuba and St
Vincent group and prepare accordingly from there. We will also open back
up the squad and maybe look at some other players we have in mind with
an aim to strengthen the squad as we see necessary," McComie added.

T&T will now contest the CFU final at a venue and date in October to be
determined. The winner of the group comprising Cuba,Puerto Rico, Cayman
Islands and Bermuda and the winner of another group comprising St
Vincent/Grenadines, Dominica, Grenada and St Lucia will join T&T in the
next round. The winner of that final group along with another group
winner will then progress as the Caribbean's two representatives in the
CONCACAF final stage in 2008 towards the Beijing Olympics. Already
through to the final phase are Mexico, Canada and United States.

Elsewhere, the Men's U23 Central American Preliminary Qualification will
have two groups of three with Panama hosting El Salvador and Honduras
from November 7-11, while Guatemala welcomes Costa Rica and Nicaragua
from November 14-18.

T&T start team: Kevin Mussio, Devon Drayton, Akil Edwards, Radanfah Abu
Bakr, Keon Daniel, Shane Calderon, Kendall Jagdeosingh, Larry Bacchus,
Simeon Augustus, Marcelle Francois and Christopher Sam.
