13 INJURED AT RACE MEET IN BARBADOS

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) - A group of spectators suffered injuries in a freak accident yesterday morning at Bushy Park where they had gathered to watch an international motor racing meet.

A truck, which was parked, rolled downhill and struck four other vehicles, leaving 13 spectators injured.
The highly-anticipated meet, features several competitors from across the Caribbean at the eastern Barbados home of motor racing in the country.

Police public relations officer, Inspector Barry Hunte, reported that nine adults and four children were injured in the mishap.

"While the truck was going downhill several spectators who were gathered began to scamper for their safety and during this 13 of them reported injuries, including broken hands and feet.

"Some experienced pain in the back and neck and others suffered bruises to their feet and hands," he said.
Inspector Hunte said the injured were evaluated by an on-site medical team before being transported to the island's sole public hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) race meet, which attracted competitors from Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Cayman Islands and as far as the United States, continued soon after the injured left for treatment.

Inspector Hunte said police
would continue investigations into the accident.
