North and West People of Trinidad and Tobago, don't care about SPORTS

North and West People of Trinidad and Tobago, don’t care about SPORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

======================================================================

On Sunday , the Strike Squad defeated U.S.A. by four (4) goals to one (1) at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.  That is the good news.

The bad news was the poor attendance for this match.  History has shown that Sporting events held in the North, particularly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and the Queen’s Park Oval are poorly attended, no matter what the Sport is.

Examples are crowds at Guaracara Park for Cricket, while no one shows up at the Queen’s Park Oval for the regional matches. In Football, both the Pro League and the Secondary School League are aware that the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in San Fernando and the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima attract more fans than the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Cycling is another example.  At the Arima Velodrome, you can expect a full house for cycling, it is the same as Skinner Park in San Fernando.  While cycling in the North is sparsely attended.

Boxing is no different; Promoters have now learnt the hard way through their empty pockets that boxing matches at the Jean Pierre Complex or Queen’s Park Oval are efforts in futility.

Instead the South and Central areas along with the Eastern corridor, can guarantee you sell out crowds for boxing.

What is the reason for all of this?  Is it a case of the North and West people of Trinidad and Tobago not being patriotic, not caring about Sports or just too busy with other matters to have time for Sports?

Is it also fair to say that many of the Sporting Clubs from the North and West now make up the bottom rung of many of the competitions nationwide?

So therefore, this lack of talent and dedication from those in the North and West, have made fans from the area no longer interested in watching Sports.

Sunday’s game between the Strike Squad and USA was just not about a re-match for those who don’t know. It was also used as an occasion to honour the 1966 and 1973 Football team. When has this ever happened before? Never!!!!!!!!!!!

This alone should have encouraged people who care about Sports to attend, but instead is further testimony that not every Dale, Tony, Dick, Tommy, Jerry, Dick …….. Know what they are speaking of.  And we not only talking about Sports here.

This is Andre Errol Baptiste saying, “have no fear, the fearless one is here”.
