In the matter of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation and members of the Soca Warriors football team, we find it necessary that whereas the items at issue have the possibility to affect the psyche of a nation, it is imperative that rational and not emotional thinking prevails.
The Soca Warriors Supporters Club and the SocaWarriors.net family, comprising of close to 3,000 ardent supporters of Trinidad and Tobago football, appeals to both the TTFF and the footballers involved to let good sense prevail. There is no Trinbagonian anywhere in the world who can honestly deny that the feat of the Soca Warriors team in their qualification for and participation in the FIFA World Cup 2006, embodied the hopes of an entire nation. For once as a people, Trinbagonians were able to put patriotism before partisan politics.
Concomitantly, it is imperative that in relation to the matters at hand, that once again patriotism is placed before the potentially irrevocable hurt and damage to the national sporting psyche any action taken in haste by either side will undoubtedly engender.
We hereby appeal that all sides with an interest in this matter: the players, the TTFF, the Ministry of Sports and indeed, the supporters of Trinidad & Tobago football, let good sense prevail. This must be done with the full understanding that the end result in this matter and the revolutionary stances available to be taken by the parties involved, can indeed be the genesis for the transformation of a society that has evidently lost its way. The footballing public, and indeed the youth of our beloved country, demands that the leadership and patriotism synonymous with the Soca Warriors in the past months, are again held up to the country and indeed the on-looking world, to the ‘consternation’ of any willing to take another route.
For the good of the game and our country,
DENZIL A. STREETE
Vice President

On behalf of the Board of Directors and members of
The Warrior Nation, Socawarriors.net
and the die-hard football fans of T&T
