HORSERACING ABANDONED IN TRINIDAD - URGENT , URGENT ----

 

SPORTS: TRINIDAD RACING ABANDONED DUE TO BAD WEATHER (remaining races to be run on Saturday 4th August, 2007)

In a dramatic twist of fate, horseracing in Trinidad and Tobago was brought to a premature halt because of inclement weather just after 2.30pm on Wednesday at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

On what promised to be an exciting –Day 22 – of racing , with the second leg of the triple crown in Trinidad and Tobago , The Midsummer Classic( 1900 metres) to be run off as race 9th, punters will have to return to Santa Rosa Park on Saturday 4th August to witness this event . Also to be run on Saturday will be the President’s Cup over 1900 metres.

In all, four of the ten scheduled races were completed before the officials of the Arima Race Club (The promoters of horseracing) stated that “after advice from the met office, that the rains would continue and the fact, that the track was saturated with water which would not dry off in time, it was felt in the best interests of all, that racing be abandoned for the day,”

“The remaining six races from Race 5 to Race 10 would be run off from 2pm on Saturday with the same declared fields as under the rules of racing, there would no changes allowed.”

In the four earlier races, Trainer Jules Miller scored a 45-1 double, winning Races 3 and 4 with – Enigmatic – and – Better for Gold -.

Earlier on former champion jockey Ricky Jadoo produced 5-1 shot -Wild Life- in the opener to win going away from –Eye Candy-, with- Coolo Breezo -in third.

In the second event , Jamaican bred colt –Piarco - , installed 4/5 favourite  obliged under Hanif Emamalie to win easily from – Godspell- , -Rhythm of Life – and –Gilgal- in that order.

This was according top all reports, not the first time racing has been abandoned for bad weather, but the first time since centralization at Santa Rosa Park.
